The whitetailed deer has been studied more than any other wildlife species in America. It's the belief of this editor that the studies surround the fact that this animal is an important part of everyday life for hunters and non hunters alike. The whitetail is a beautiful animal that is admired by mankind from all walks of life. This magnificent animal creates a challenge for wildlife managers, farmers, neighborhood associations and deer hunters. This whitetailed deer is considered to be the number one big game animal in North America. Organizations such as the Boone and Crockett Club, Quality Deer Management Association and the Virginia Deer Hunters Association have worked closely with Game and Fish Agencies throughout the country to make sure that deer management is closely governed. Our cover photograph for this issue is a fine example of how Quality Deer Management has moved to the forefront. The hunting community deserves a great deal of the credit for this monumental accomplishment!
